Farmers’ attitude towards cooperative participation in irrigated vegetables production in Gombe State, Nigeria

The study analyzed the attitudes of farmers towards participation in irrigated vegetable production Gombe state. Multi-stage sampling technique was used to select 180 from a total population 904 area. data collected using descriptive statistics. result on socio-economic characteristics revealed that 42.2% respondents were within age group 30-39 years. Majority 88.9% male and 60.5% them had no formal education. Most 91.7% married 35% 9-15 family members. About 52.8% earned between N 101,000 - 150,000 as their estimated annual income. 62.2% farm size 0.5 -1.4 hectares land about 87.2% 1-9 years experience production. 66.7% belongs farmers’ association. mean scores attitudinal statements are; cooperative vegetables help work done faster (4.75), leads effective decision (4.78), serve basis for getting governmental aids (4.11), yield higher profit (4.65), food security (4.72), enhances access extension services (4.52), facilitates adoption innovation capacity building (4.67), increase investment (4.68), market (4.48), lastly it brings agricultural development (M=4.62). recommended should be encouraged join revive existing societies raise enough capital activities. Government make available inputs, irrigation facilities construction boreholes tube wells at subsidized rates. Farmers need educated activities agent-farmer contact order facilitate improved technology.
